Data sources

Every product on Food Loverr comes from Open Food Facts, a free, open, collaborative database of food products built by volunteers and contributors around the world. We don't use any other data source in this version of the site.

How data gets here

We periodically download Open Food Facts' official bulk export, automatically filter it down to products with enough information to be useful (a name, brand, nutrition data and, ideally, an image), and store a copy of the relevant fields in our own database. The website only ever reads from that copy — it does not query Open Food Facts live when you search.

Licensing and attribution

Open Food Facts' database is published under the Open Database License (ODbL), and product photos are published under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA). In line with those licenses, every product page on Food Loverr credits Open Food Facts and links back to the corresponding source record, and product images are loaded directly from Open Food Facts rather than being copied or altered. Individual product photos may also be subject to third-party copyright or trademark rights, as noted by Open Food Facts.

Accuracy

Open Food Facts is collaboratively maintained, meaning entries can be incomplete, outdated, or occasionally wrong. We never invent or estimate a missing value — if a nutrient isn't shown on a product page, Open Food Facts simply doesn't have it yet. Always check current packaging or the manufacturer for anything that matters to your health, such as allergens.

Refresh frequency

The catalogue is refreshed automatically on a weekly schedule, and can also be re-imported on demand. See How it works for details.
